Learn More About Our School

The school day for our Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) children begins at 9:00am and ends at 4:30pm. For our Primary children, the day begins at 9:15am and ends at 4:30pm.

We have the capacity for up to 200 children between the ages of 12 months and 7 years.

Class sizes typically range from 20 to 25 pupils. We are proud to offer some of Madrid’s best teacher-to-pupil ratios: 1:4 in Pre-Pre, 1:6 in Pre-Nursery, and 1:12 in Nursery and Primary—ensuring every child receives individualised support and attention.

There is usually an even split between Spanish and international children at our school, with the majority of international families being British. Our community represents 35 different nationalities, creating a truly international environment.

We follow the Early Years Framework and the English National Curriculum for Key Stage 1.

All teachers delivering the English National Curriculum are UK-trained, highly qualified teaching professionals. Spanish and other language subjects are taught by qualified native-speaking teachers.

English is the language of instruction in the classroom, delivered by UK-qualified teachers who provide exceptional tuition from the early years. In the playground, children often speak a mix of English and Spanish, while some use their home languages with peers of similar backgrounds. This multilingual environment supports rapid language development and is particularly beneficial for new students. The school also provides excellent support to help children become confidently bilingual.

Yes. From Year 1, Spanish is taught according to guidelines set by the Spanish Ministry of Education. In the Early Years, our Nursery and Reception children receive an hour a week of explicit Spanish teaching.

In addition to Spanish, French and Chinese are available as optional extracurricular languages.

Newcomers are welcomed warmly at our school. Our attentive staff ensures a smooth transition and settling process through a dedicated buddy system and strong pastoral care.

Yes, we offer an “Induction English” programme for a limited number of Primary pupils (ages 5–7) with proven academic ability. This course offers small group instruction and individual classroom support to facilitate integration.

After completing Year 2 at King’s College School, Chamartín, students transfer to either King’s College School in La Moraleja or Soto de Viñuelas to continue their primary and secondary education. At these schools, they prepare for their IGCSE examinations at the end of Year 11 and then move on to Sixth Form, where they choose between A Levels or the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP).

Graduates of King’s College gain admission to prestigious universities worldwide. The majority have enrolled in top British universities, including Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial College, and LSE, as well as other respected institutions like Durham, St. Andrews, Edinburgh, Manchester, and various colleges within the University of London. Others have pursued higher education internationally, gaining entry to renowned universities in the USA (Harvard, MIT, New York University, Boston College, Princeton, Rutgers), Canada (McGill, Dalhousie, University of Toronto, Waterloo), France (Sorbonne), Japan (Aoyama, ICU, Keio, Sofia, Tokyo, Tsukubu, Waseda), and countries including Australia, Chile, Korea, Turkey, Venezuela, and more. Many students also choose to study at leading Spanish universities such as UAM, Complutense, and Carlos III.

King’s College School, Chamartín is a purpose-built infant school for children aged 12 months to 7 years. Children transfer at the end of Year 2 to either King’s College School, La Moraleja (12 months to 16) or King’s College, Soto de Viñuelas (ages 4 months to 18).

All these schools follow the English National Curriculum. Soto de Viñuelas also offers boarding and has extensive facilities on a large countryside campus, well connected to Madrid.

The transition begins during Years 1 and 2 with joint events such as Sports Days and performances to familiarise pupils. In Term 1, parents meet Heads of Primary from La Moraleja and Soto during a coffee morning. Throughout Term 3, there is a targeted transition day, parent meetings at the destination schools, and at least four pupil visits. The continuation of the English National Curriculum ensures a smooth academic progression, supported by a PSHE programme focused on preparing for and managing change. Before the new academic year, families are invited to a “Meet the Teacher” day to help pupils settle in confidently.

Pupils participate in regular sports as part of the curriculum. Extracurricular options include ballet, judo, football, rhythmic gymnastics, swimming, and more. These help children explore new interests and develop their individual talents.

Homework is age-appropriate and often optional, designed to reinforce classroom learning and encourage parental involvement. Children are expected to take reading books home regularly.
